About this message

In this message, Phil walks through the extraordinary journey on the road to Emmaus (Luke 24:13-49) to show how Jesus revealed Himself throughout all of Scripture—from the serpent defeater in Genesis to the suffering servant in the Psalms to the coming Messiah in the Prophets—and how as Jesus opened the disciples' understanding, their hearts burned within them with the recognition that they were part of God's big story all along. Drawing on Old Testament shadows and types that pointed to Christ centuries before His incarnation, Phil demonstrates that God's plan of redemption through Jesus was never a surprise or a failure, but rather the central storyline running through every page of Scripture, designed to give us hope and assurance that we are known and chosen in His eternal purposes (Ephesians 1:4-5). As you listen, hear Phil's challenge: if you've turned to Christ, you are written into this story too—so let your heart burn with the hope of the gospel, make your life count for Jesus, and be a witness who holds out this message of forgiveness and restoration to everyone around you, starting right where you are.
