Monday Meditation

Jonah 4

Mondays are about making time not just to read but to prayerfully think and consider the Scripture you're reading. Read through it a few times, slowly and ask the Holy Spirit to speak to you.

Trumpet Tuesday

Jeremiah 31-32

Tuesday's focus is on the major prophets in the Scripture. Full of imagery, promises and challenge. The context of prophetic writing is very important. Understanding who they were writing to and what was happening to God's people at the time will help us to apply these writings today.

Wednesday Wisdom

Job 38

The book of James tells us that if any of us lack wisdom we can ask for it and God will give it to us. As we read the wisdom literature in the Bible let's trust God is going to teach us what His wisdom looks like.

Pause and Ponder - After all the questions of Job and the compassionless answers of his friends, God speaks and dramatically gets Job’s and our attention! God puts Job on the spot and finally he is silent. What follows is a wonderful glimpse into how creation happened. Imagine the morning stars singing together, the angels shouting for joy! God setting limits to the mighty seas and the stars in their constellations. God is even like a father to every drop of dew and provides food for the birds. There is no end to his power, his creativity and his attention to every detail needed to sustain mankind on his earth. Our hearts must respond in worship to such a God and our own complaints are then put in perspective, like Job’s. Why not worship with this song based on the passage?  Chris Tomlin - Indescribable (Lyrics And Chords) - Hilary Dalziel - LRC Market Harborough

Thanksgiving Thursday

Psalm 66-67

The Psalms are full of human emotion, some full of rejoicing and joy, others confusion and questions. All of them agree though, whatever the circumstances, God must be praised! Let's join our voices with the psalmists on these days to praise whatever our circumstances.

Pause and Ponder - Psalm 66 is a psalm of praise that encourages us to joyfully sing his praises, often referring to ‘all the earth’, this tells us the psalmist was not only acknowledging God over Israel, but the whole earth. The chapter then goes on to acknowledge that we will face trials but concludes that God is a listening God who hears our prayers, and despite the trials, we must have a heart of gratitude.

In Psalm 67, the psalmist prays for blessings, for the purpose of the world admiring God’s works. When we pray and ask God for things, do we consider only ourselves, or the greater mission? - Amelia Batstone - LRC Stoney Stanton

Friday Feast

Joshua 16-24

The practice of reading big chunks of Scripture is really helpful when understanding the context of what is happening in the stories. If finding time to read all of this in one go is difficult maybe break it into a smaller times of reading through the day.

Simple Sunday

Luke 7-8

For centuries Scripture has been predominantly read amongst families and community. In recent times reading the Bible and praying has gained a more personal focus. On these days where possible, why not read these Scriptures out loud and with others? Pray and reflect on God's Word together.
